Beware of Allen & Ginter Rip Card Ripoffs!
One of the most popular inserts in Topps Allen & Ginter baseball card products are rip cards. However, you should be very careful about buying a Allen & Ginter rip cards off of eBay, or anywhere else for that matter as it is easy for less then ethical sellers to know what is inside a rip card without actually ripping it. The only way to be sure that you have a legitimate rip card with unknown contents is to pull it from a sealed back of Allen & Ginter. This is true for 2006 Topps Allen & Ginter through 2009 Topps Allen & Ginter sets.
Individuals are able to see inside rip cards by placing a flashlight under it and looking at whether the contents of the card shine back or not. Most of the high end cards that are placed in rip cards have holograms on the back of the mini cards. This hologram reflects the light from a flashlight, thus alerting the collector that the card is likely a valuable one. If the contents of the rip card does not reflect light, then it means that more then likely the mini card inside is a low end short printed (but standard) mini card.
